Toyota announced Wednesday that it is recalling 50,000 Sequoias from the 2003 model year for a problem with the stability control system. The stability control on the Toyota Sequoia activates at slower speeds than are necessary and could cause the SUV to accelerate poorly, according to Autoweek.
Another recall was announced recently on the Lexus GX 460 for stability control issues, but the luxury SUV suffered from the opposite problem that the Sequoia does. The stability control system on the Lexus GX 460 was not kicking in fast enough, which made the truck unstable.
Toyota says that no accidents have occurred because of the acceleration problem, and the company will begin contacting owners of potentially affected trucks in mid-May. The problem doesn’t make any 2003 Toyota Sequoias unsafe, but has been a source of many complaints from owners. Toyota has been fixing any Sequoias that were brought to dealers with complaints, so the company decided to recall any that could be affected and hopefully improve customer satisfaction with the truck.
