Ford has announced that the 2011 Ford Transit Connect will have several new, greener powertrain options. An all-electric Transit Connect will be available later this year for fleet customers. Ford will also release a taxi that runs on compressed natural gas and propane, which is both better for the environment and less expensive than gasoline. Ford also plans to have hybrid, E85, EcoBoost and bio-diesel engines options available on the 2011 Transit Connect, according to AutoWeek.
Ford dominates the fleet market with a 32 percent market share of commercial fleet sales and a 44 percent market share of government ones. Just look around next time you’re driving and you’ll notice how many businesses have chosen the smaller Transit Connect over a full-size van. So rather than just offering stripped-down, cheaper versions of its cars and SUVs for rental companies, Ford has focused on helping businesses save money and the environment at the same time with fuel-efficient powertrain options.
In addition to the variety of new greener engine choices on the 2011 Transit Connect, the 2011 Ford Escape and 2011 Ford Fusion will be available with engines capable of running on E85 ethanol-gasoline mix.
