BMW may be jumping on the four-door coupe bandwagon soon. At the Beijing Motor Show, BMW revealed its Gran Sport concept car, which combines the styling of a coupe with the functionality of a sedan, like the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Volkswagen CC.
Nobody is accusing the BMW Gran Sport of being groundbreaking, but it is beautiful. BMW says that the concept is four inches shorter than both the 5-Series and 7-Series. The Gran Sport’s low stature works with hidden B-pillars to give it a sporty look and hide the rear doors. The Gran Sport concept also features LED accent lights, which have been used successfully on Audi models over the past few years.
According to Autoblog, BMW doesn’t have any official plans to build the Gran Sport concept as a real model. If the concept is popular and the Mercedes-Benz CLS continues to sell well, it will be an easy choice for BMW to build the four-door coupe. If it does go on sale, the Gran Sport will probably be sold as a BMW 6-Series four door model, which would market the car as a coupe rather than a sedan.
