Porsche has announced that it will add a V6 Panamera to its lineup. The V6-powered Porsche Panamera sedan will have 300-hp and be available with either rear or all-wheel drive. The V6 Panamera price will be about $15,000 less than a V8-powered S model. According to Autoblog, the Porsche Panamera V6 will start at $74,400 for a rear-wheel drive model and $78,900 for an all-wheel drive.
With 300-horsepower, the V6 engine doesn’t give the Porsche Panamera performance like the 400-hp V8 engine does. That’s not really a big deal though, because the Panamera, which was designed to compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7-Series, was never designed to be a sports car. The base model Porsche Panamera will come with a seven-speed automatic transmission, an electric moonroof, an automatic liftgate and navigation.
Porsche says that the V6 powered Panamera isn’t just the economical choice when it comes to purchase price. It will also get better gas mileage than the more performance-oriented Panamera S thanks to the smaller engine, which weighs 66 fewer pounds. Porsche has not yet released estimates for the V6 Panamera’s gas mileage, but says that it will not be subject to a gas guzzler tax.
