Air travel in Europe has stopped thanks to the eruption of a volcano in Iceland, which has thrown ash into the air that threatens to destroy the engine of any plane that attempts to navigate through the clouds. The stoppage of air travel in Europe could result in a shortage of Nissan Murano, Cube and Rogue models in American car dealerships.
Nissan‘s cars are built in Japan and shipped by sea to America. So how exactly does the grounding of European planes have any bearing on Nissan cars in the United States? According to The Wall Street Journal, via Autoblog, a sensor for the cars is produced in Ireland and flown to Japan. Thanks to a money-saving, just-in-time production method, the Icelandic volcano has already forced Nissan to halt production on the Murano and Rogue SUVs and the quirky Cube wagon.
If you’re shopping now for a new Nissan Murano, Cube or Rogue, don’t panic and buy the first one you see. The production stoppage won’t affect dealer stocks immediately. Air travel could be restored soon and the plants could reopen, in which case dealer inventory likely won’t be affected seriously. If air travel isn’t restored and Nissan doesn’t come up with a solution, the price of a new Murano, Cube or Rogue could go up thanks to a lack of supply.
