Just four months after going on sale, the new Acura ZDX luxury crossover is being recalled. Acura announced on Tuesday that 1,850 of the brand new light duty SUVs will need to be inspected by dealers. Apparently a defect could cause the passenger side airbag to deploy improperly, which could potentially cause injury, according to Autoweek.
The Acura ZDX recall is due to a dashboard material that was cut wrong and could cause the passenger airbag to malfunction. Acura says that only about two percent of all ZDX models being recalled are actually affected by the dashboard defect. That means that only 37 cars are actually defective, so if you have an Acura ZDX in your driveway, don’t panic.
Only 582 Acura ZDX crossovers have actually been sold from when the ZDX went on sale on Dec. 15 to April 1, when the latest sales data was reported, so not many customers are at risk. If you’re shopping for a ZDX right now, make sure the dealership has checked your car for the dashboard defect and has replaced it if necessary.
