Ford has announced the pricing for its hotly anticipated 2011 Mustang. The flagship 412-hp Mustang GT will have a base price of $30,495, which is $1,300 less than the 2011 Camaro SS’s $31,795 starting price, according to Left Lane News. That’s enough savings to buy yourself a nice sounding exhaust. The V6 model, which has 300-horsepower and gets 31 mpg highway, will cost $22,995, according to Left Lane. That price makes the V6 Mustang possibly the best budget performance buy out there.
The new 5.0-liter Mustang GT will bring Ford back into the muscle car wars. With 412-horsepower, the 5.0-powered Mustang is finally in the same weight class as the Camaro SS, which has 426-hp. The 2010 Mustang with a 4.6 liter V8 has just 315-hp.
The new V6-powered Mustang makes Ford a real player in the low-price sports car segment. The $23,000 price puts it squarely in competition with the Hyundai Genesis and Volkswagen GTI. When shopping for a sporty car in the low $20,000 range, it will be impossible to ignore a Mustang with 300-hp and 30-mpg.
Ford won’t be changing the looks of the 2011 Mustang when it updates the engines. The Mustang received a visual update for the 2010 model year.
