Honda has announced a recall on 344,000 Odyssey minivans and 68,000 Element SUVs from the 2007 and 2008 model years because of a problem with the brake system. There is a design flaw in the electronic stability control system on these vehicles that allows air to get into the brake lines and gradually lessen the effectiveness of the brakes, according to The Boston Globe.
As air finds its way into the brake lines of the vehicle, the brake pedal will feel softer and will need to be pushed closer to the floor in order to stop or slow the vehicle. If the problem worsens, the vehicle will become unsafe.
Honda says that owners of affected vehicles should wait for a letter from the company to schedule a repair for their vehicles. The parts needed to repair the problem are not yet widely available. Owners who believe their vehicle’s brakes may be compromised right now should contact a dealer immediately for repair.
