Jaguar has revealed that it is planning to build a small convertible sports car called the C-Type. The Jaguar C-Type will compete with the Audi TT, BMW Z4, Mercedes-Benz SLK and Porsche Boxster. According to Inside Line, the Jaguar C-Type should be available as a 2012 model.
Like all two-door Jaguars, the C-type is gorgeous, and the company has made huge strides in reliability over the past few years, so the C-type stands a real chance to be competitive in the small sports car segment.
The only variable to the Jaguar C-Type’s success, as Inside Line points out, will be the engine. Since Jaguar was recently owned by Ford, Inside Line thinks that a six-cylinder Ecoboost turbocharged engine is a possibility. That would certainly be a great combination of style and speed, but depending on the details of Jaguar’s sale to Tata, it may not be a real possibility.
