The 2011 Honda CR-Z hybrid has been revealed at the Detroit Auto Show. With styling reminiscent of Honda’s famous sporty hatchback CRX and even more famous Insight hybrid, think of the CR-Z as Honda’s version of a retro model. According to Autoblog, the CR-Z will feature a mild hybrid system that will allow the sporty hatch to get 36 mpg city and 38 highway.
The CR-Z will have a 122-hp, four-cylinder engine and will be available with either a CVT automatic transmission or a six-speed manual. With just 122-hp and only 38 miles per gallon, it’s pretty obvious that the CR-Z will be geared for sporty driving rather than gas sipping. That should make the 2011 CR-Z a really fun-to-drive little car.
The CRX was Honda’s sporty economic hatch until it was discontinued after the 1991 model year. It has been a favorite for Honda enthusiasts since then because of its lightweight, unique styling and huge amount of available aftermarket performance parts.
The Insight was the first mass market hybrid car to go on sale in America, and was instantly recognizable. The first generation of the Honda Insight wasn’t very popular thanks mostly to not having a back seat, but is still a favorite of hybrid fans and hypermilers who want to squeeze every mpg out of a car.
The 2011 Honda CR-Z has a rear end that looks an awful lot like the first-generation Insight.
