Mercedes is apparently sick of all the ultra-rich celebrities who traded in their S-Classes for Priuses now that the fashionable thing to do is be seen driving around in a hybrid. So sick that Mercedes is reportedly going to offer celebs and other wealthy aspiring environmentalists a chance to buy a plug-in hybrid and spend six figures on a humongous and luxurious S-Class at the same time.
According to British magazine AutoCar, the next Mercedes-Benz S-Class will feature a plug-in hybrid option. The next-generation S-Class will be the first Mercedes model to use a plug-in hybrid system, but eventually every Mercedes-Benz model is expected to be available with the option.
There is already a hybrid option on the S-Class, but it doesn’t allow for electric-only driving. Mercedes will most likely develop a new hybrid system for the plug-in hybrid S-Class, and then eventually offer that technology in other models on the lower end of the Mercedes lineup, according to Autoblog.
