The Volkswagen New Beetle was first sold in 1998 and hasn’t changed much since then. That’s an astounding run for a model, unmatched by modern cars except by the Ford Ranger and Crown Victoria. To commemorate its decision to finally issue a new generation of the Beetle, VW is selling a “Final” edition.
The Final edition VW Beetle will come with a sport tuned suspension, unique 17-inch wheels, and an Aquarius Blue paint job, which looks an awful lot like the Heaven Blue available on non-Final edition Beetles. According to Autoblog, the New Beetle Final edition will cost $20,240 for a hardtop and $27,170 for a convertible.
The last year of a model’s production is always a tricky time to buy a car. In the beginning of the year, you shouldn’t bother because dealers won’t be willing to budge much on the price, and the car will have a worse retail value than if you had waited until next year. On the other hand, once the new model is out, any leftover last-generation models will be available at a hefty discount. No dealer wants a new car on their lot that buyers will assume is used.
