Pontiac has issued a recall for 10,000 Vibes to fix a problem where a brake vacuum intake port could become locked due to frozen condensation in extremely cold climates. According to the NHTSA, if that happens, braking performance will decrease dramatically and an accident could occur.
Residents of Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming should be receiving letters from Pontiac soon detailing how they can have their cars fixed as soon as possible.
Only the Pontiac Vibes sold in states that experience extreme cold are being recalled, but customers in other states can bring their Vibe in to a Pontiac dealer and have the defective brake components replaced. If you’ve got a Pontiac Vibe, you might as well have the recall repair performed on your car, even if you’re not in a cold weather state. You never know when life events (such as a zombie apocalypse) will occur that will force you to move up north, and Pontiac dealers won’t be around much longer.
