Toyota took the 2010 Toyota 4Runner Trail grade modelĀ to the legendary Rubicon Trail to show off its offroad abilities.
Toyota showed off the all-new 2010 Toyota 4Runner at the State Fair of Texas today. The 4Runner has been a staple in America since it was first introduced in 1984 and helped spark the SUV craze. The 2010 4Runner will have more horsepower and better gas mileage than the 2009 model. The 2010 4Runner will be available with a four-cylinder engine for the first time since 2002.
The 2010 4Runner will be available in three different trims. The base SR5 will have all the features a typical SUV buyer wants, but buyers who want the 4Runner Limited will have an X-REAS self-leveling suspension system and full-time four-wheel drive. Twenty-inch wheels ensure that Limited models won’t spend much time offroad.
The most exciting news about the 2010 4Runner is the new Trail grade model that has bigger tires and an electronic locking rear differential. An electronic system allows the driver to determine the amount of slip the 4wd system allows, depending on the terrain, and an optional Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System that allows the driver to disconnect the stabilizer bars to allow for better axle travel for rock crawling.
Toyota 4Runner buyers will be able to pick between three different engines. Two-wheel drive models can be had with either a 2.7 liter four-cylinder with 157 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque or a 4.0 liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. Gas mileage is basically the same for all 4Runners. The 2wd models get 17 mpg/23 highway with the 4cylinder and 17city/22 highway and the 4wd gets 17 city/22 highway.
