According to Autoblog, some 2009 and 2010 Nissan Altimas and Nissan Maximas have been sold with faulty suspension parts that can potentially cause an accident. Apparently, the upper front strut isolators that were installed on 26,398 Altima and Maxima models can crack and allow the strut to shift. This could affect the vehicles’ stability and handling and could cause a crash.
Nissan will be alerting owners of the recall starting October 5. If you own a 2009 or 2010 Nissan Altima or Maxima, you should contact your dealership to see if your car is affected.
Before you buy a new or used car, you should always check the NHTSA’s Web site for any recall that could potentially affect the car you’re considering. Carmakers will fix the problems in a recall situation for free, but if a previous owner or dealership ignored a recall notice, the car you’re buying could be unsafe. You can also sign up for an email newsletter form the NHTSA that will alert you if a recall has been announced for your vehicle.
