Here’s the common conundrum of Porsche ownership: you’ve got the ultra powerful, crazy handling car, but you can only take one friend for a ride at a time. Showing off to your friends takes all day, then you’ve got no time left for golfing. Finally Porsche has addressed the nagging issue of how to give more than one person at a time a white-knuckle ride.
Porsche debuted its new four door sports car, the Panamera, today. A front engine V8 sedan designed to compete with the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-class, the Panamera will provide a similar comfort level with the performance pedigree of a Porsche.
Porsche says that direct injection will give the Panamera the best fuel economy in its class, the company claims 26.2 mpg for the Panamera S. That’s a good number for any car that size.
What really separates the Panamera from other high end luxury sedans is its hatchback body style. The Panamera’s hatch will give it more storage space than its competitors, but more importantly will help it stick out at the country club, without the assistance of a bright orange antenna ball.
The Porsche Panamera will be available in dealerships on October 17, 2009 and will cost $89,800 for the 400-hp, two wheel drive Panamera S. The all wheel-drive Panamera 4S will be $93,800 and the 500-hp twin turbocharged Panamera Turbo will set you back $132,600.
