Some of you may think that Super Bowl XLIII MVP Santonio Holmes may have been shorted one of his exclusive prizes. Sure, he made the customary trip to Disneyworld, but doesn’t the MVP get to choose a brand new Cadillac?
Well, the MVP choose a 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid Platinum, worth an estimated $85,000, complete with multiple DVD screens. The difference this year was that the Escalade was awarded in a private ceremony. Normally, the vehicle is awarded on the field after the game.
This year, Cadillac did not want to be seen by millions of people giving away such an expensive vehicle since General Motors just received nearly $10 billion of bailout money from the federal government. Cadillac has sponsored the award for the past eight years as part of a multi-year contract with the NFL. It appears Cadillac realizes that this year a more subtle approach to its contractual obligation was the way to go.
