A young British driver has taken the system on, and he won. 21 year old Dale Lyle was shocked to receive a ticket in the mail stating he was caught speeding at 98mph. Dale was shocked not only because he had a perfect driving record, but because he didn’t even own the car anymore!
The penalty for the ticket could have been almost $1,400 and a six-month suspention of his license. But Dale had another argument that made real good sense, his car won’t even go 98mph! The car in question is a little 1.3-liter Civic that according to the owner “could barely get up to highway speed, much less do nearly 100 MPH!”
Determined to prove his innocence Dale went about repurchasing the car back from the friend he had sold it to. Then he turned it over to an independent testing expert who went to the famous Millbrook’s High Speed Oval to find out what she could really do. In the end the little Civic could only manage a GPS-certified 85mph, way off the 98mph the charge was claiming.
Dale took this proof to court and the Crown Prosecution Service had no choice but to drop the case entirely. He is now seeking compensation in the tune of $1,700 to be reimbursed for the cost of the testing and what it cost to by the old jalopy back. He later had this to say, “The video evidence the CPS sent me was just appalling. They are just picking on innocent motorists. It makes you wonder how many people say, “Fine, give me the points”, when they are not guilty.” Take Dale’s lead next time you feel you’re wrongly accused. Don’t just sit there, fight the system!
