Toyota Motor Corp has just announced that they will recall about 214,500 Lexus luxury cars sold in the United States. The reason for the recall is that corrosion in a pipe that delivers fuel to the engine could lead to leaks over time.
Toyota launched the recall program along with the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) after Lexus determined that some ethanol fuels could start corroding the fuel pipe which could cause a fire. Apparently, some Lexus vehicle’s had their engine warning alerts triggered by the pipes corrosion. This eventually led to an internal investigation which came up with the problem.
While no vehicles have reportedly leaked, Toyota is playing it safe. The recall covers certain GS300/350, IS250/350 and LS460/460L models built between the 2006 to 2008 model years. Owners of the Lexus vehicles covered by the recall will be notified by mail starting in late January.
If you find yourself a part of this lucky group, head on over to your Lexus dealer immediately. This is a safety and fire hazard all rolled in one so make sure to get it fixed as soon as you can! More info can also be found here on the NHTSA’s website.
