After recently announcing their withdrawal (for the time being) from the sport of Formula-1 racing, Honda Motor Co. has recently announced that they are now canceling the NSX sports car successor. The next NSX would have surely been a world class supercar had it reached production.  With a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V10 under the hood making more than 500 ponies, and Honda’s advanced Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system transferring all that power to the ground, the next NSX’s performance should have been stunning.

Honda is pointing at the economic situation which is “worsening everyday in all regions” as the main reason it had to make such drastic cutbacks in the all areas of the company. The NSX program just happened to be a victim of these new policies which the company had to undertake in order to stay healthy in the short term.

What’s most annoying to enthusiasts though, is that the new NSX was almost ready. Word has it that the car was already 95% of the way there and could have been easily put into production within a couple of months. The sound of any naturally aspirated Honda engine revving hard is enough to make any true enthusiast smile. So you could imagine a Honda V10 then…

Hopefully once the market returns to normal the NSX program might be revisited. All the hard work has already been done. All that’s left to do now is set a price and figure out whether to sell it out of Acura or Honda dealers, at least in the U.S. The NSX is an important icon for Honda, I doubt that they would just file it away under canceled and forget it.
