As revealed by reporter Andrew Taylor, writing for the Associated Press, the proposed $14 billion bailout plan for U.S. automakers will not only help just GM and Chrysler. If the loan gets passed several Federal judges would get some extra “assistance” as well.
That’s because silently included in the bail-out plan was a proposal to give all Federal Judges a pay-raise! That’s right, while an entire nation mulls over what is going to happen to their automotive industry, the people who are suppose to be solving this issue aren’t even really focusing on the issue itself.
The raise is part of what’s called an annual “cost of living adjustment”, or COLA. The pay-raise would see Federal Judges making the equivalent of members of congress, all of whom have already received a $5,000 yearly raise. District Judges and Lawmakers already earn $169,300 a year and they now want a 2.8 percent raise next year according to Dick Carelli, a spokesman for the Administrative Office of the United States Courts.
This is just plain ridiculous! While an entire country sits on the verge of economic meltdown, and an entire industry is on the brink of collapse, all Congress can think of is giving themselves a raise?!?! It disgusts me to think that even now people’s values are being set aside, just so a few fat old guys can make a few more dollars. Sorry gentlemen, you don’t deserve a raise. In fact, now that I’m thinking about it, the way this country has been run for the past few years indicate that you guys might need to take a pay cut instead.
