The Goodwood Festival Of Speed is a cannot-miss event to anyone who calls themselves a true motorsports enthusiast. Known simply as the Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom (FoS for short), the annual festival consists of a hill-climb event featuring historic motor racing vehicles. The festival is held in the grounds of the Goodwood House in West Sussex, England and is an annual celebration of anything to do with speed and motorsport.
For 2009 the Goodwood Festival of Speed will honor those in their chosen sport who have shown “True Grit” in the face of adversity. The annual event will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of Audi, Bugatti, and Morgan.
Here is a statement released by organizers regarding this year’s theme:
“The theme celebrates the drive and determination of motor racing’s heroes, who overcame huge physical, mental and mechanical barriers in their quest for glory,” said organizers in a statement. “From Jackie Stewart’s enduring victory at the 1968 German Grand Prix, despite his broken wrist, to Mick Doohan’s courageous return to motorcycle racing in 1992 without full use of his right leg, there are countless amazing tales of performance far beyond what was thought possible for any human being.”
The event will take place July 3-5th of next year. If you can make it I definitely recommend you attend. It’s worth it alone just to meet the awesome racing heroes who come to this awesome event every year, oh and to see their aweosme machines too!
