Ferrari, Land Rover, and Rolls-Royce are the newest automakers to announce they will not be showing their cars at this year’s Detroit Auto Show. They will be joining Porsche, Suzuki and Chinese automakers Changfeng and Geely, all of whom decided to not attend this year’s show in Detroit.
One would think this is strange, especially when all of these manufactures have exciting new models to show off to the public. Ferrari has their new California hardtop convertible, and Rolls-Royce were set to debut their Phantom Coupe at the show until both pulled out at the eleventh hour.
If this isn’t a sign that Detroit is casting an ugly shadow on the U.S. auto industry, then I don’t know what is. For major players like Ferrari and Porsche to opt to not show their new vehicles is kind of a surprise to some people, but given the current state of things in Michigan I’m not surprised at all. It’s now up to the Detroit automakers to bring something worthwhile to the table, and literally save face for what is suppose to be the country’s largest annual car show.
