Saab’s current 9-3 sedan and convertible have been steady sellers for the Saab brand. Both are currently wearing a fresh re-skin and have been endowed with newer powerplants. In fact, Saab’s are quirky cars, but they do have a special charm to them.
Now the company is hopping to highlight that special something by launching the aptly named 9-3 Convertible Special Edition. The Special Edition differs from the regular 9-3 convertible in that it wears all the fancy clothes of its more expensive and higher performance 9-3 Turbo X brother including the bumpers, trim, and dual exhaust. It will only be available in a three colors: Bright Champagne, Jet Black and Carbon Gray. Inside a special steering wheel and trim brighten up the cabin.
All the Special Edition models will come with Saab’s standard 210hp turbo four-cylinder engine mated to either a 5-speed auto or a 6-speed manual. The Special Edition’s wheels are also unique to this model.
The car will make its public debut on November 19th at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. When it goes on sale in January of next year it will come with a starting price of $46,725.
