Australia has a rich motorsports history. With many great drivers coming up through the ranks in Australia, it’s no doubt that the Aussies know what a great sports car should drive like. In fact the V8 Supercars series that dominates Australia, in the way Nascar does here, are very much production street machines fitted to race.
Now, one company is about to make Australia proud. Bolwell of Australia is the name of that company, and they are about to unleash a new sports car onto the roads. Called the Nagari ( an Aboriginal word meaning “flowing”), it was first displayed at the 2008 Melbourne Auto Show.
This mid-engined sports car is powered from a Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V6 making about 295hp and 235ft-lbs of torque. Bolwell says that’s enough to propel the 2,020 pound car to 60mph from a standstill in under 4 seconds! A six-speed paddle-shift transmission is standard (no word on a manual option) and the whole car is made of what the company calls “high impact” composites. Carbon-fiber reinforcements originally developed for the aviation industry and space programs are also imployeed in the Nagari’s construction.
Prices are hovering at around $132,000 at current exchange rates. The company has already started taking orders and expects to deliver the first customer vehicles by the end of the year.
