The McLaren F1 is a legend amongst high performance automobiles. For a long time it held the title as the world’s fastest car. With a top speed in excess of 240mph, the McLaren F1 really was the pinnacle of motoring, maybe still is. Even though it’s top speed has since been surpassed by the mighty Bugatti Veyron, Gordon Murray’s design masterpiece can still prove its worth against the best cars in the world.
In fact, at a recent London automobile auction, it did just that. With bidding for the car reaching a fever pitch the hammer eventually went down and history was made. The winning bid? $4.1 million dollars, or four times what the car sold for when it was new! In fact according to some, that’s a new world record.
“The … sale price redefined the market for these superb vehicles,” Max Girardo, managing director of RM Auctions European division, said in a statement. “The McLaren F1 is quite simply one of the most contemporary cars ever produced and tops a sale that has again shown that great cars attract great prices.”
Indeed, in the eyes of many the McLaren F1 is the pinnacle. No other car can do what it does, the way that it does it. To this day here is a car which gives you an experience unlike any other. I guess for one man, that feeling was worth $4.1 million.
