Every muscle car deserves a Hurst-shifter right? Its been known throughout the years that if you want a decent shifter for your American V8 machine, you get a Hurst. But do some of you remember that Hurst also made cars?
Well not actually made them from scratch, but the classic Hurst/Olds 442 is a modern legend amongst those who were there when they started rolling on the streets. Sure, it was almost 40 years ago, but those cars left a lasting impression. While Hurst never left the car-parts business, selling thousands of their legendary shift-improvement kits in the aftermarket (and as original-equipment) over the years, the company wanted to do something special for their 50th anniversary.
So, at the SEMA show this year, the company unveiled a new generation of Hurst muscle cars. Based on the new popular Dodge Challenger, the aptly named 2009 Hurst/Hemi Challenger will boast an barrage of improvements, not including the obvious shifter mods. Their top-of-the-line model will boast a 560hp supercharged engine, performance suspension, a Katz Skin leather interior, and a Kicker audio system, along with bold new exterior graphics.
Though you can order the car in different “stages”, you can bet most will be the mighty supercharged Stage-4 version. While no pricing has been officially announced, the company has already devoted a section of their website to the cars. Expect other American cars to get the Hurst treatment in the near future.
