If there is one thing that Americans do well, it’s give you more horsepower for you dollar. Case-in-point: The all new 2009 Cadillac CTS-V. Cadillac recently announced the official pricing for the new uber CTS, and it was a real blow to the competition. Its Corvette ZR1 derived supercharged V8 delivers a colossal 556hp, or about 56hp more than a $90,000 V10 BMW M5, but at a $30,000 difference. Talk about a deal…
That’s because for a starting price of $59,995 (including a $775 destination fee) you get a whole lot of performance. In fact, there is no arguing that this car will probably smoke an M5 in a head’s up race. Isn’t progress a thing of beauty? That base price will also include a six-speed manual transmission and a Bose surround-sound system with a 40-gigabyte hard drive that can be accessed through a standard USB port. Microfiber accents on the steering wheel and seats will cost you an extra $300, while a navigation system will add $2,145 to the base price.
Expect to pay about $66,000 for a loaded CTS-V when they start arriving in dealers across the country. While no official EPA numbers have been posted, expect the CTS-V to chug and not sip, such is it’s nature. A Cadillac spokesperson said it should be around 13mpg in the city and 19mpg on the highway. Yikes! Hopefully all that consumption will translate into a drive to remember. If the last 400hp CTS-V was any indication, an extra 156hp couldn’t hurt…
