Chrysler is real busy nowadays. The company is in the midst of a sort of renaissance, and is in the process of re-inventing themselves. So it comes as a surprise to hear that one of the company’s icons, the Dodge Viper, is up for sale. The Viper brand has a healthy following around the world, but financially it’s quite a burden for a restructuring manufacture.
The company said this morning that it is “exploring strategic options for the Dodge Viper business.” The company followed up by saying; “This strategic review comes as the Company focuses on enhancing its core business and leveraging its assets.” This is fancy talk for “We don’t have enough money.”
Here is what Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli said about the potential sale of the Viper:
“We have been approached by third parties who are interested in exploring future possibilities for Viper,” said Nardelli, “As the Company evaluates strategic options to maximize core operations and leverage its assets, we have agreed to listen to these parties.”
But just the fact that they are even entertaining offers seems like a big surprise. The Viper brand brand hold cred on the street and the racetrack. Sure it’s a small bespoke operation, but in return you get one unique ride, and Chrysler gets a much needed image boost. But alas, it seems like they are serious about unloading the Viper brand. It won’t be long a until someone will step up and say, “I’ll take the wheel…”
Above: Sorry Viper fans, seems like you’re going to need to get your dose of snake venom from somewhere else….
