The 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show will mark a pivotal moment for Hyundai. Thats when they have decided to unveil their newest Hybrid Sonata sedan. A hybrid from Hyundai? That is correct folks, with a new hybrid Hyundai can established themselves as a real contender in the automotive field.
There were few details revealed, but John Krafcik, who is Hyundai’s vice president for product development, confirmed that the Sonata hybrid is a what the company is calling a “parallel hybrid” that uses an advanced lithium-ion battery pack. The company says its first hybrid model should be launched by 2010, and will compete with such products as the Toyota Camry Hybrid and Honda Accord Hybrid.
No EPA figures have been released yet, but one can expect a 20-30% improvement in gas mileage compared to the regular V6 sedan. Pricing has also not been set yet but further details are expected to be revealed in at the auto show.
