Not even a year after the new WRX was released Subaru is upping the ante. In a move that’s bound to piss off a bunch of recent WRX buyers, Subaru is updating it’s current WRX in a big way. You see the 2009 WRX will get a 41 hp boost over the 2008 model. 41 hp !!!! That’s a ridiculous amount of extra “boost.”
That’s not were it ends though. In addition to the awesome power boost, the revised WRX also gets stiffer spring rates, larger antiroll bars, retuned dampers and upper strut mounts from the high performance STI model. Lower-profile 225/45R17 summer tires replace the current car’s 205/50 rubber and help provide more aggressive chassis feedback.
If that wasn’t enough (they’re not done yet) the Aero package that was previously an expensive option on the 2008 WRX is now standard on both sedan and five-door models along with a new STI-type grille. The five-door even gets the STI’s rear spoiler and diffuser for free.
As you could imagine, buying a WRX when it came out and than finding out about this would could really tick you off. All the options that would have almost doubled the price of your WRX are now standard and free of charge. Ouch, and on top of that there’s a 41 hp gain from that already stellar engine package. That’s enough to drive any enthusiast crazy!
Above: Don’t buy the 2008 model, unless getting the best bang from your buck is not your style….
