The Genesis Coupe is an important new model for Hyundai. The company is so serious about attracting the “tuner” crowd that they have already commissioned many top industry tuning shops to work their magic on the new coupe. By giving the tuners a head start, Hyundai is making sure that the Genesis Coupe has a solid aftermarket support before it even come out.
One of their first partnerships is with a man who’s name is tied with performance. Rhys Millen is the son of legendary driver Rod Millen and an accomplished race driver in his own right. He has competed in everything from Drifting to Pikes Peak Hill Climb events. So it’s only fitting that he be the first one get his mitts on a Genesis Coupe.
Millen’s Coupe is quite radical, and also racecar serious. Millen said the car needed to “be capable of running in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.” The car is also draped with what Millen describes as a “radical body design.” Indeed, radical is the perfect description. The car now boasts a wide-body kit with a carbon fiber wing and a functional hood scoop, and is painted in a silver-and-black scheme. Yellow headlights add to the menacing look.
Millen’s race shop, RMR, will provide a turbo package for Hyundai’s DOHC 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and will then mate it to a heavy-duty HKS sequential gearbox. A K&W coil-over suspension system, Brembo brakes and Enkei racing wheels shod with Bridgestone Potenza RE-01 performance tires round out the radical package. Of course a full roll-cage and race harness will also be there for safety’s sake.
When this new Millen Genesis Coupe makes it’s official debut at the SEMA Show later this year it will mark Hyundai’s official war signal. This Genesis Coupe is ready for battle!
