The first official image of the redesigned 2009 Ford Ka was leaked onto the web nearly three months ahead of its scheduled October debut. The new Ford sub-compact was suppose to debut at the 2008 Paris Auto Show, but alas that was not to be. The photos started popping up on British servers and in less than a few hours the whole world was looking at Ford’s new baby.
The new Ka will share its underpinnings and suspension design with Fiat’s popular new 500 retro hatchback. The new car will be assembled alongside the 500 at Fiat’s plant in Tychy, Poland. It is expected to go on sale in various European markets in late 2008. This means they will also share powertrains including the turbo 1.4-liter engine from the 500 Abarth, said to be fitted to a Ka ST edition. Also, a new 75 hp turbo-diesel is said to give back almost 40mpg in the city.
Whether or not it’s coming to the U.S (probably not) is still up in the air. Who knows, maybe with the rising fuel prices and changing trends Ford can get a clue on what kinda models we need. In Europe the new Ka will start around $15,000.
