The Panamera has to be one of the most anticipated new Porsche’s in a long time. It’s a true four-door Porsche (and no, to me the Cayenne doesn’t count) with all the soul of it’s 911 and mid-engine sports cars. Specific details have started to surface on this new German super-sedan.
The 2010 Porsche Panamera will be priced from about $127,000 for the base V6 model to $198,000 for the full-house turbo V8 all-wheel-drive edition. Three engine configurations will be available. First there is the base V6, then the naturally aspirated V8, followed by the range topping V8 Turbo. Also in the works is a V6 hybrid with a 100hp electric motor.
The engines are a direct hand-me-down from the Cayenne SUV’s power units. The normal 4.8-liter V8 is rated at 405, while the range topping V8 Turbo will produce upwards of 520hp and be all-wheel drive. No power figures have been released for the V6 but one must estimate at least 300hp for it to be competitive in it’s segment. Top speed in the turbo version is a healthy 186mph.
When the car is finally launched early next year, it will only be available with the 405-hp 4.8-liter and a 520-hp turbo V8’s at first. Both will be mated to a seven-speed version of Porsche’s PDK dual-clutch gearbox. Later in 2010 the V6, and hopefully V6-hybrid, will go on sale.
