It’s called the Invicta, and it’s Buick’s future in this country. At least that’s what General Motors would have you believe, but this is a Buick with something a little different built into it. That thing is purpose.
The Invicta concept debuted at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show. China is a huge market for Buick, in fact bigger than here in the states. Buick is seen as an upscale brand to the Chinese and competes directly with the likes of Mercedes-Benz and BMW. So it is only fitting that the car would debut in that market first.
The real news though is that this might also form the basis of a new line of sedans and a reinvention of the Buick brand here at home. While it seems doom is on the horizon for a lot of GM’s sub-brands, Buick is marching forward proudly.
Although the Invicta concept featured a 250-horsepower, turbocharged DOHC 2.0-liter four-cylinder under the hood, a more traditional V6 will probably see duty here in the U.S. when it makes its production debut in 2010.
