Subaru has been an independent company for as long as I can remember. While not a popular car here in the states, Subaru’s have a vaunted reputation the world over as dependable, rugged vehicles that are well built and can get the job done. In fact, in some countries, a Subaru is seen as more reliable than a Honda.
But where Subaru really attracted a fan base was through it’s involvement in the world of motorsports. Specifically in the sport of rally racing at the world level. Their WRX series of cars has left quite an impact on the sport by being unstoppable in the hands of many a famous rally star.
So when the STI version of the WRX is not enough, and 300hp is a bit lacking Subaru has the answer. Caught testing at the Nurburgring recently was the legendary Spec-C version of the newest WRX. The Spec-C promises to be the most extreme, stripped-down WRX variant ever. Not only is 150-200 pounds of weight removed from the stock STI, engine upgrades are expected, along with a higher-performance braking system and suspension. The Spec-C’s famous white wheels, and a redesigned rear diffuser are also added to the mix.
Whether or not this newest version of Subaru’s legendary Spec-C is coming to the states is not yet known. But I sure a hell want one! I think that self-described “Subbie-heads” will agree with me on this one, this is one wicked cool car!
