Mazda has recently announced the pricing of its new 2009 Mazda 6 sport sedan. The new 6 will be starting at $18,550 while the top model, the Mazda 6 S Grand Touring will cost $28,260. Prices do not include a $670 destination charge. The price range on the outgoing 2008 Mazda 6 was $19,140-$27,150 so this new model will offer a lot more for less.
The Mazda 6 get’s the company’s all-new MZR 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which makes 170 hp and was developed in-house, by Mazda. The optional engine is a 3.7-liter V6 that makes 273 hp. The V6 is the same engine already in use in Mazda’s CX-9 SUV. Either engine can come mated to a six-speed manual or five-speed Sport AT automatic. The V6 has the additional option of a six-speed Sport AT automatic transmission with the in-fashion paddled shifters.
Power windows, mirrors and locks, air-conditioning, ABS, dynamic stability control and traction control and front and seat-mounted airbags and side curtain airbags will all be standard on all models. With this sort of incentive, Mazda hopes to attract some buyers from more prestigious brands.
The Mazda 6 that will be sold in North America will be built at Flat Rock, Michigan, at Mazda’s plant that is part of its joint venture with Ford. The two companies have partnered to create a new mid-size platform that will be beneficial to both parties.
Mazda’s new 6 will be at dealers across the nation by the time you read this.
