Bentley’s have always been known for their superior build and quality. The historic British manufacture has always been about quality and quantity. Speed and racing is in Bentley’s blood, and it’s newest model takes that credo to all new heights. Called simply the Continental Flying Spur Speed, the newest Bentley sedan packs quite a punch.
Most Bentleys of old have been motivated by an in-house designed 6.75-liter turbo V8. The big V8 provided effortless acceleration and the massive torque need to move an almost 3 ton sedan at anything near a brisk space. It has worked, and been refined over the years and is now a Bentley staple. The new Bentley is different though, as it’s powered by the Volkswagen-sourced, 6.0-liter W12 twin-turbo engine. Power is rated at 600hp. Impressive output in any company.
Here are the figures then; 600 ponies, 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds, carbon-ceramic brakes, and a top speed in excess of 200mph. This is one fast land yacht!
The six-speed automatic transmission has been beefed up to handle the extra power and the shift programs have been retuned. Settings for the adjustable air-spring suspension were revised to drop the ride height by almost a half inch while firming up the ride quality. Bushings between the front subframe and the chassis were also removed to provide more direct steering feel.
All this adds up to the fastest road-going Bentley ever produced. Though pricing has not been announced yet, figure at a starting price of around $200,000. Even though you’ll probably end up spending close to a cool quarter million by the time you option it out, thats a steal for the luxury and speed you get. Heck, it’s so lush and plush on the inside that if it had a bathroom, you could live in it. Well, at least I would…
Above: Just look at the craftsmanship of that interior, still think it’s not worth 200 large?
