The long awaited trailer to the upcoming Death Race movie hit the internet a few days ago and the buzz has been building ever since. The movie is a nod to past classics such as Death Race 2000, and it’s modern take of it seems to be a perfect recipe for a summer movie.
The movie revolves around a prison competition in which the prize is freedom, and the risk is that entrants won’t live to see the finish line. It’s the kind of quasi-cheesy movie plot that could just be a hit if it’s portrayed in the right way.
The starring car is a Ford Mustang fastback referred to as “the Monster” in the film. It’s helmed by action bad-boy Jason Statham (of Transporter fame). Statham plays the movie’s masked hero, a former NASCAR racer turned convict, who carries the lovable nickname of “Frankenstein.” His nemesis in the movie is Tyrese Gibson as “Machine Gun Joe,” who pilots a heavily modified Dodge Ram truck.
All the cars boast battle-ready goodies such as armor plating, machine guns, and the ever popular smoke screen. The cars are the stars in this movie though. They are built by the prisoners out of wrecks and spare parts which is a far stretch but works in this sort of a scenario.
The R-rated Death Race opens in theaters nationwide on August 22nd. For now you can click on the link and see the cool trailer.
