Lexus has always been a brand on the rise. They successfully were able to lure Mercedes and BMW drivers with their well built luxury sedans. They even built a BMW M3 fighter in the IS-F sport sedan. But now they will take a stab at something way more exclusive, Ferrari.
You see, that is because Lexus has been in the process of readying a supercar. Called the LF-A, the concept has been parading around the show circuit for more than three years. It’s almost ready, say Lexus, but expect to pay for all that performance. Sources in Japan have leaked news that Lexus’s newest baby will cost a cool quarter million.
While $250,000 is a lot of money, your getting a lot of car. First there is the power unit. A 5.0 liter naturally aspirated V10 which makes a round 500 ponies and it will probably be mated to a trick semi-auto transmission. Next you get a car that is almost completely made of high quality carbon fiber, followed by a technology package so advanced Lexus claims it’s gonna blow everyone away. All this adds up to a top speed in excess of 200mph.
Should Ferrari be worried? Well, the prancing horse has had more than it’s share of threats in the past and, well, they all came up short. Lexus is dead serious in it’s intentions though, and we all know what they can accomplish if they set they’re minds to it. As much as I wanna believe they will better a Ferrari, the proof is in the performance. We’ll just have to wait for now.
Above: Lexus will offer it’s new supercar in coupe and convertible flavors, yummy….
