Lot’s of rumors are going around about Ford’s next Mustang. The current retro ‘Stang has sold very well, and it would be stupid to mess with the formula too much, but things must go on. Ford can’t sell a retro car forever but they can modernize a classic shape.
The new Mustang’s release will come just in time for Chevrolet’s upcoming Camaro. A muscle-car battle is on the horizon my friends, believe you me. I can already smell the tire smoke…
Most of the changes are thought to be subtle, but together they will give the needed affect to boost sales ahead of it’s competitors. At least that’s what Ford hopes.
Most of the major changes are expected to come under the hood of the new pony car. A 5.0-liter V8 will replace the current 4.6-liter V8, which should result in a decent bump in horsepower, probably in the neighborhood of 400 ponies. It’s not an all-new engine, just an enlarged version of the current 24-valve SOHC V8.
Ford’s new EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6 is were the real news is at. Its twin-turbo setup should deliver more than 300 hp while delivering superior mileage compared to the 5.0-liter V8. How Ford will position the new high-tech engine is anybodys guess, but expect it to be slotted between the V6 and V8. Maybe as some sort of special edition to highlight the new power plant? Who knows, but I’ll safely bet that if consumer response is very positive it just might replace the V8 all-together.
For now though, here are some juicy spy shots…
