That’s right folks, the new Ford Mustang GT500KR is 80 large. KR stands for “King of the Road” a moniker that dates back to the original Shelby-fettled Mustangs. Though the GT500 came out last year with, you guessed it, 500 horsepower, the new KR model only ups that by 40hp. But that extra 40hp might just be the most expensive ponies ever!
That’s because at $80,000 dollars the GT500KR is a whole $35,000 dollars more than a regular GT500 which goes for 45 grand. That’s insane! What do you get for that kinda money? Some stiffer suspension, some small aero tweaks, and than there’s the carbon fiber hood, which on a 4,500-lbs car is kinda worth it but a bit pointless.
So is this really enough to be “King of the Road” ? No, not really. You see with that extra $35,000 dollars you could by a GT Mustang packing 300hp and still have $5,000 to play with in the after market. The GT is also more than 1,ooo-lbs lighter! Now add a couple grand for engine mods and you’d be at around 450hp in the GT. Add some sticky tires and you to can spank GT500KR’s all day long. It’s called power-to-weight ratio people! King of the Road? I don’t think so….
Above: Can you say “not worth 80 grand”? I can….
