Volkswagen has recently unveiled an endurance racing version of it’s upcoming Scirocco coupe. Three factory-prepped Sciroccos are entered in the Nürburgring 24 Hours on May 24-25. This unveiling comes as a surprise as the racecar is months ahead of the production model’s fall on-sale date.
Two-time Le Mans winner Hans Stuck will pilot one of the Sciroccos competing at the ‘Ring. He has already has tested the racecar and had this to say: “I felt immediately comfortable in the car,” he said. “The Scirocco is one of the most uncomplicated racing cars I have ever driven. It’s really fun, and I am looking forward to the 24 Hours on the Nordschleife with even greater anticipation.”
Co-driving one of the factory cars will be Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, VW’s board member for technical development. The other drivers have not yet been announced. This should prove to be an exciting new part of VW’s enhanced recent commitment to get back to racing on a large scale again.
