GM is building a Cadillac CTS Convertible? How come no one has heard of this? Seems the folks over at GMÂ would want to glorify something like that, right? I should have at least seen a commercial by now…
Nope GM is not building a CTS convertible, at least not for now. The car pictured above is actually the handy work of a company out of Florida. Coach Builders Ltd. is that company and they recently announced that they are taking orders for the $19,000 custom conversion.
That’s right, conversion. As in they take your new CTS and then they “chop da top” as they say in the custom car world. The drop-top conversion consists of a full open convertible without a roll bar. The acrylic polyester cloth hydraulic tops come in a variety of colors including tan, gray, blue, brown and black, and employ General Motors-style manual latches at the front corners. The roof is padded between the structure and the exterior fabric for sound and temperature insulation. A heated glass rear window and fabric headliner complete the factory look.
Here is the thing that makes it really unique though. You see, GM has not yet released the CTS coupe and the car is only available as a four door. So the CTS convertible conversion is actually a four door convertible! Not since the sixties (Ford Galaxy, I believe it was) has there been a four door convertible. If the CTS convertible wont get your attention, than the four doors opening up with the top down sure will.
