A class-action settlement involving owners of the Ford Explorer was approved by a California judge on Tuesday. This brought the seven year lawsuit against the Ford Motor Co. to an end. The SUVs had been alleged to have lost value after a tire recall triggered concerns about potential rollover crashes.
The settlement covers purchases or leases of new Ford Explorers from 1991-2001 in the states of California, Illinois, Texas and Connecticut. As part of the settlement, Ford has agreed to issue discount certificates valid for one year worth $500 toward the purchase or lease of a new Explorer or $300 toward the purchase or lease of any other new Ford, Mercury or Lincoln. I doubt a couple of hundred bucks satisfied anybody but, at least for Ford, it’s a resolution.
To quality for the discount certificate, consumers must fill out and submit a claim form by April 29. Claim forms are available at a the website posted below in accordance to a statement by the Superior Court of California in Sacramento County. Consumers can get more information by calling the 800 number posted below as well.
