Jaguar and Land Rovers CEO, Geoff Polites, passed away Saturday in his home in Australia. Polites was instrumental in the selling of both British brands to India’s Tata Motors. He was expected to stay as chief operating officer once the deal took place.
Ford issued a statement on Sunday morning saying Polites died peacefully at his Australian home. He had been battling a serious illness for the past two years.
Geoff Polites was a 40 year veteran of the auto industry before he took the wheel at Jaguar and Land Rover in the beginning of 2005. With him at the top the two companies returned to profitability and have enjoyed a steady yearly sales increase. The launch of the XF is the culmination of his work and said to be a fabulous car. A fine legacy to leave behind.
