Cadillac has been on a roll for the past couple of years. Long gone are the boring models of the early and late 90’s, replaced with bold and fresh new cars that speak to a new generation of Cadillac buyers.
The XLR roadster is a good example of this companies “rejuvenation”. Based on a Corvette chassis only with all the luxury features associated with a modern Cadillac. It has been a successful model for the Caddy folks and therefore it is only logical to think that they are readying a replacement right? Not so fast there buddy.
While the car in these spy photos is not a completely new XLR roadster, it is the models first facelift or refresh, since the car debuted about four years ago. From what we can tell it’s all cosmetic. It would seem improbable for GM to radically alter the hardware as it was an expensive car to design and produce. The folding hardtop for one is an expensive piece of kit and the XLR is the only Caddy to have one. What you can expect are updated trim and bumpers as well as a few bit’s of sheet metal. I’d expect the interior to be upgraded as well for this, in my opinion, was a weak point in the XLR.
The new model should be in dealers across the nation this spring. Expect a slight increase in price and a few new colors as well as some new options in the form of useless electronic gizmo’s.
Above & Below: Caddy’s new XLR gets a mild face lift to keep up with the times….
