I have started to look at replacing an Acura I have that comes off a lease soon. Given it is my wife’s car she wants another mid-size car to move the family around. But she added that special phrase we all hear nowadays, “I want to save money on gas.” Well, this seems like a good idea, help the environment, reduce our use of oil, save some money. After looking at two choices, the 2009 Honda Accord and 2009 Toyota Camry you start to think about hybrids. Once I compared the hybrid versions, which will cost a few grand more than a 6 cylinder version of these cars, I realized what I spend more on the car eats up the savings on the gas. Of course if we get to $4.00 a gallon or more on gas, I would be better off with the hybrid.
When I got a new car quote from PriceWheels.com I spoke to a dealer who handles the process very well. What he suggested hadn’t crossed my mind, look at 4 cylinder versions, you spend less on the car and save on gas. I can’t imagine a 4 cylinder having enough power for a mid-sized sedan. And thus the dilemma, us Americans love power, if not we would all drive 4 cylinder cars.
So my hunt continues, it is clear you can’t have power and save on gas. I think it might be time for us all to become a little more powerless!
