The Ford Motor Co. planning to cut it’s second-quarter North American production by 10 percent. The company announced today that it plans to produce 730,000 vehicles in the second quarter of 2008. This is down from 811,000 vehicles in the same period a year ago. Ford is planning to build 225,000 cars and 505,000 trucks. That means a production cut of 4 percent on cars and 12 percent on trucks said ford sales analyst George Pipas. Ford’s first-quarter production forecast of 685,000 vehicles remains unchanged though, Pipas said. He added that Ford’s production planning over the past 18 months has been based on a ” cautious view” of the economy and how industry auto sales would unfold.
This news is clear evidence that Ford is still not out of the woods as far as it’s troubles are concerned. After many troubles with suppliers and workers unions, Ford is still feeling the heat. Cutting down production is a good way to ease that burden. Whether it will affect the prices at the dealer is still to be seen.
