Capitalizing on the success of their recently released new M3, BMW is launching an all new four-door sedan version. This is the second time in history that BMW’s famed sports coupe has come in sedan form. The last and only other time was with the E36 body style car, available from 1992-1999.
This new four-door boasts all the good hardware from it’s coupe twin brother. This includes a fabulous, rev-happy 4.0 liter V8 rated at 414hp at an astonishing (for a street V8) 8,300rpm’s. This new engine also happens to weight in at 33lbs lighter than it’s predecessor thanks to liberal use of exotic light weight materials in the engine bay.
This is a good thing as this new generation M3 is quite a bit heavier than the model it replaces. This is besides the point though. Both cars will give you that sureal driving experience, even though some purists have openly complained about the lack of steering feel. Lack of steering feel, in a BMW? Most reviews have been positive though.
The M3 sedan can run to 60mph in a bit under five seconds and charge to a top speed (limiter removed) of about 180mph. Impressive, to say the least. This is the kind of performance that can help you get that recomended thirty minutes of heart pumping activity. The aspect of four doors and a more spacious trunk with the same blistering performance is very appealing to some people.
When it comes out in March, the 2008 BMW M3 Sedan will be priced at $54,575, while the 2008 BMW M3 Coupe is bit more at $57,275. Hurry to your Bimmer dealer if the idea of four-door performance sounds appealing to you.
Above and Below: BMW’s perennial son, the M3 once again receives the four door treatment…
